Types of revision implants
Cemented prosthesis and uncemented prosthesis are the two types of revision implants. Cemented prosthesis uses epoxy cement to attach the metal to the bone and uncemented prosthesis uses a mesh of holes which makes the bone grow into the mesh. In some cases both procedures are used based on the condition of the joint.

Revision knee arthroplasty is a difficult procedure due to the bone loss around primary prosthesis. In order to overcome this problem the surgeon uses bone graft around artificial joint. After placing bone and other materials, new prosthesis is implanted. New artificial joints are only placed after making sure that the joint is infection free.
Like any other surgery, revision knee arthroplasty has also some complications like implant loosening, infection, wound complications, anesthesia complications etc.

After surgery
Special stocking and well padded dressings are provided to prevent blood clotting. Physical therapies are mandatory to improve the mobility of knees. Routine check ups are necessary to monitor the progress of recovery and to prevent further complications.
